Escape vs. Highlander
I think the Escape hybrid is as edgy and fun to drive as the Toyota HiHy.
You can get the HiHy in 2WD, but why bother?
Toyota is engineering its eco cars very well, which will make it difficult to compete with, however, the Escape handles just as well, and like you said, the mileage is competitive.
Chevrolet is designing hybrids such as the Equinox, which will re-assert American cars in the eco-hybrid automobile market (which is growing as fossil fuels disappear). Right now, I'd bet on the Escape, if not only for the mileage.
"The Andy Griffith Show" is popular in America and to the rest of the world, to a much less degree. If we have this edge, what's delaying us in taking over the hybrid vehicle market??? As Andy would say, "This vehicle just keeps on going on just about nothin'."
